The partnership will provide printed educational materials for health plan members and providers. Research shows a change in a baby\u2019s movements in the third trimester is an early red flag. By using <em>Count the Kicks<\/em> expectant parents can increase the chances of their baby arriving safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Partnership<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the partnership SilverSummit Healthplan members and healthcare providers will have access to FREE <em>Count the Kicks <\/em>education and materials. These include at-a-glance materials that primarily use images to teach expectant parents how to <em>Count the Kicks<\/em> and what to do if they notice a&nbsp;change in their baby&#8217;s movement pattern. <em>Count the Kicks<\/em> educational materials help expectant parents and providers have a conversation about kick counting in the third trimester of pregnancy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact of Stillbirth in Nevada<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to CDC Wonder, Nevada loses approximately 251 babies to stillbirth each year. In Iowa, where <em>Count the Kicks<\/em> began, the state\u2019s stillbirth rate dropped by nearly 32 percent in the first 10 years of the campaign (2008-2018). Iowa\u2019s rate went from 33rd worst in the country to one of the lowest, while the country\u2019s rate remained relatively flat. Through this collaboration, SilverSummit Healthplan is hoping to bring the same success to Nevada, which would save approximately 80 babies in the state each year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;SilverSummit is pleased to launch this partnership with <em>Count the Kicks<\/em> to offer resources to expectant parents and their healthcare providers,&#8221; said Nicole Figles, Vice President, Population Health for SilverSummit Healthplan. &#8220;If raising awareness in Nevada can make a difference in the lives of families we serve, then it is time to start counting!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Racial Disparities in Birth Outcomes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CDC data shows that every year in the U.S. approximately 700 women will die from childbirth complications, and 22,300 babies will be stillborn. The risk is even greater for Black women who, according to the CDC, are twice as likely to lose a baby to stillbirth than their White neighbor, colleague, or friend. Black women are also three times more likely to die of pregnancy complications. For Black women in the U.S., 1 in every 97 pregnancies ends in stillbirth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research shows that babies can in fact be saved from preventable stillbirth when expectant parents track their baby\u2019s movements daily and learn how long it normally takes their baby to get to 10 movements. After a few days, app users will begin to see a pattern, a normal amount of time it takes their baby to get to 10 movements. If their baby\u2019s \u201cnormal&#8221; changes during the third trimester, this could be a sign of potential problems and is an indication that the expectant mom should call her healthcare provider.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About SilverSummit Healthplan<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>SilverSummit Healthplan (SilverSummit) is a managed care plan that provides health insurance to the people of Nevada.
